Red Pigeon Grit Fortified With Calcium and Minerals
3 in stock
A qood quality grit containing oyster shell, red stone and limestone is important for all pigeons. Grit is good for digestion. Pigeons have gizzards, which is essentially the mechanical stomach of a bird. It is located just after the true stomach in the gastrointestinal system. Since pigeons have no teeth and swallow seed whole, this muscular organ mechanically grinds and mixes the bird’s feed. Grit aids this process. Calcium is one of the fifteen minerals needed in a pigeon’s diet in order to maintain good health. It is the mineral that is essential for life since it strengthens the skeletal system and builds bones; allows muscle contractions (including those of the heart) and nerve activity; alters the hormonal state during breeding and is needed by the hen to form eggs. Calcium is not made by a pigeon’s body, so needs to be supplemented. The remaining minerals in this mix are the 14 other minerals that are necessary for healthy pigeons. Principal ingredients include red stone, limestone, oyster shell, granite and phosphorous. The remaining minerals are salt, zinc oxide, iron oxide, monocalcium phosphate, dicalcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, mineral oil, sodium selenite, manganous oxide, ethylemediamine dihydriodide, ferrous carbonate, copper oxide, cobalt carbonate and calcium periodate.
Each bag is 40 ounces.
